Hello Families,
YIKES!!! It’s June!!! We are in
the final stretch of school. It is still very important that students are at
school.
We are continuing to work on all
the letters and sounds. We have also started to introduce blends!! This week we
worked on the sh sound, shape, shark, shell, shoes, shirt, and shovel. The sh
sound can also be found at the end of a word, fish, push, crush and cash.
I hope everyone’s SH Hat made it
home safe. We had fun making them.
June
7th – Field Day. This will happen during regular kindergarten time.
Kindergarten students from all over the district will meet at Foster school for
fun. If you would like to join us, you may.
June
8th – NO Kindergarten.
June
11th – Hike. We will hike from one side of the park to the other. We
will end at the tall staircase next to the waterfall. I am still in need of a
few volunteers to join us. If you
can join us please let me know.
Next
week your child will bring home their school supplies and a collection of other
school materials. Look for a BRIGHT green book. This book is Summer Vacation
Homework. There is a task for every day (Monday – Friday) complete this book
and bring it back to first grade in the fall for a special treat.
We
are getting close to the end of the school year. I am trying to get everything
done. There is so much going on, we are learning new things every day!! It has
been so much fun!! These kids are turning into first graders!!

My child
seems to know a word one day, but then she forgets it the next day.
There are some children who see a
word once and remember it forever. Unfortunately that is not the case with most
kids. When students are learning to recognize new words in print, they need to
have many experiences with those words. For example, you child may recognize
the word here in one book because she knows the pattern of that book well and
it’s a very familiar text for her. But when that word appears in another book,
she may not automatically know it –
perhaps it appears in a different place, or has a capital at the beginning, or
is written in a different font. The high-frequency words will keep coming up in
all of the beginning books we use with her.
